Two fighting cultures. One gym.

The Iceni were Norfolk’s own tribe, and the coins they struck carried a horse. Siam is the old name for Thailand, the home of Muay Thai. Iceni Siam brings the two together on Hellesdon Park Road: the horse on our badge, and the Thai art of eight limbs on the mats. Meet your coach.

The art of eight limbs.

Boxing gives you two weapons. Muay Thai gives you eight. Every session builds them, one pair at a time.

Fists

Jab, cross, hook and uppercut. The boxing base everything else is built on.

A coach holds a fighter close in the corner between rounds

Elbows

Short, sharp strikes for close range, where Muay Thai is at its most dangerous.

A fighter drives a knee into his opponent in the ring

Knees

Straight knees and knees from the clinch, the Thai fighter’s grappling game.

Two fighters trade kicks under the ring lights

Shins

The roundhouse kick and the teep, thrown through the target with the shin.

Ian

Coach

Ian Clancy has fought in both the UK and Thailand. He first competed in Thailand at 21, when there were very few gyms and only a handful of stadiums. In the UK he held the British ISKA title and was ranked in the top five in both the Thai boxing and kickboxing rankings. Coach Ronnie Green picked him to represent England at the first World Championships held in Thailand, but without sponsorship he was unable to take up the opportunity. Even now it’s hard to market Thai boxing in Norwich without calling it kickboxing, but times are changing: Thai boxing is growing in Norwich and nationally, Thailand now has training camps for tourists, and gyms are springing up everywhere. Call Ian on 07912 678 035.

Step on the mats.

Your first session is £7. Bring water, wear something you can move in, and we will do the rest.

Before you walk in.

I have never trained. Can I come?

Call Ian on 07912 678 035 before your first session. He will tell you which session to start with and what to expect.

Do I need to book my first session?

The easiest way is to send the form on the contact page or call Ian on 07912 678 035, so he knows to expect you.

Do you train juniors?

Yes. Junior membership is £45 a month. Call Ian on 07912 678 035 to ask about ages and which sessions juniors train in.

What do I need to bring?

Comfortable kit you can move in, water and a towel. If you have gloves, wraps or shin guards, bring them. If not, ask Ian before your first session.

Where is the gym?

82 Hellesdon Park Road, Norwich NR6 5DR, in Hellesdon on the north-west side of the city. Open it in Google Maps, or see Muay Thai across Norwich for the areas we cover.
